Spotted Lanternfly

Lycorma delicatula

Spotted lanternflies, originally from Asia, are commonly spotted in Northeastern USA during summer months. They are invasive and threaten agriculture by piercing plants and excreting "honeydew". Experts recommend removal and destruction of lanternflies found in the US. Despite the name "lantern fly" these insects are actually not flies, but rather plant hoppers.
