Green Devil Dung Beetle

Oxysternon conspicillatum

Native to Central and South America, these beetles can be found anywhere from sea level up to 3,000 meters. Identified here is a female of the species due to the lack of horn that is present on the male counterpart, which gives them another common name: Rhinocerous Dung Beetle. They contain host defense peptides (oxysterlins) discovered by researchers that have the possibility of use in future antibiotic development.
